Endoscopy is a valuable procedure used by doctors to examine the digestive tract. An endoscope, a flexible tube with a light and camera, is inserted into the body, allowing doctors to view real-time images of the digestive tract on a color monitor.

An upper endoscopy (OGDS) involves inserting the endoscope through the mouth and throat into the esophagus, enabling close inspection of the esophagus, stomach, and the upper part of the small intestine.

For larger sections of the intestine, such as during a colonoscopy or sigmoidoscopy, the endoscope is inserted through the rectum for a more thorough examination. Endoscopies have become essential diagnostic and treatment tools due to their minimally invasive nature, providing patients with minimal discomfort.

Digital General X-Ray
